Composition:
1 ml of the preparation contains
active ingredients:
Ciprofloxacin – 5 mg;
Dexamethasone – 1 mg.
Pharmacological properties:
Combined preparations containing corticosteroids and antimicrobial agents. dexamethasone and antimicrobial agents.
A combination product with pronounced antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties due to the action of ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone.
Ciprofloxacin belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones.
The mechanism of ciprofloxacin action consists in inhibiting DNA-hyrazes of bacteria, thus preventing the process of DNA replication, as well as in violating the integrity of the bacterial cell membrane, which leads to its death.
Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride quickly eliminates R-plasmids, which prevents the development of resistance of microorganisms to the drug.
The preparation is active against Gram-negative and Gram-positive microorganisms, especially against E.coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Serratia spp., Spylobacter spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Yersinia spp.., Vibrio spp., Aeromonas spp., Haemophilus spp.; Brucella spp., Staphylococcus spp. (including penicillinase producing strains and methicillin-resistant strains), Mycoplasma spp., Mycobacterium spp.
When buried in the conjunctiva, the drug easily penetrates into all tissues of the eye, creating a stable therapeutic concentration. Ciprofloxacin penetrates well into the epithelium of the cornea and conjunctiva, while achieving a therapeutic concentration in the eye fluid.
When the preparation is buried in the ear, absorption of ciprofloxacin is negligible. It is excreted from the body with urine.
Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticosteroid with pronounced anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and antiexudative activity, with rapid onset and short duration of action.
Dexamethasone stabilizes cell membranes, reduces the permeability of blood capillaries, has antiexudative effect due to the stabilization of lysosomes membranes.
The system absorption is low when used locally.
After being buried in the eye dexamethasone penetrates well into the corneal epithelium and conjunctiva; in this case therapeutic concentrations are observed in the eye fluid; in case of inflammation or damage to the mucous membrane of the eye the penetration rate increases.
The duration of anti-inflammatory action after burial of 1 drop of solution is from 4 to 8 hours.
A small amount of dexamethasone enters the system bloodstream. Approximately 60-70% of dexamethasone entering the circulatory system binds to plasma proteins. Dexamethasone is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome-containing enzymes; metabolites are excreted through the intestines. The half-life period is on average 3 hours.
Application:
Treatment of dogs and cats:
For infections and inflammatory diseases of the eyes and ears caused by ciprofloxacin-sensitive microorganisms;
in allergic processes of the anterior eye, complicated by bacterial infection;
for prevention and treatment of inflammatory phenomena of eyes and ears in postoperative period.
Dosage:
The drug is buried in a conjunctival bag or ear canal 1-2 drops 2-3 times a day.
The duration of treatment is usually 5-7 days.
If necessary, the therapy duration can be extended to 2 weeks.
In the presence of abundant purulent discharge, exudate, scabs, preliminary hygienic treatment of the eyes / outer ear canal is performed:
bury 3-4 drops of the drug and remove the exudate with gauze swabs (sterile swabs are used for the eyes). After that, bury 1-2 drops of the drug.
Cautions:
Use with caution on pregnant animals.
The drug should be at room temperature when used.
Shake it before application.
