Description
Description
Viscous solution from yellow to brown.
Composition
1 ml of the preparation contains
active ingredient:
Doxycycline hydrochloride – 120 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Doxycycline, which is part of the preparation, refers to semi-synthetic antibiotics of tetracycline group with a wide range of action, is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including Escherichia coli.., Yersinia enterocolitica, Bordettela pertussis, Shigella spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Klebsiella pneumoniae, Leptospira spp, Clostridium spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Corynebacterium pyogenes, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Fusobacterium necroforum, Actinobacillus spp., Rickettsiae spp., Chlamidia spp. and Mycoplasma spp.
The mechanism of bacteriostatic action of doxycycline is associated with the suppression of enzymes that catalyze the binding of aminoacetyl-RNA with ribosomal acceptors, which leads to the blocking of interaction of aminoacetyl-RNA with matrix RNA and disturbance of microbial cell protein synthesis.
After parenteral administration, doxycycline is well and quickly absorbed from the injection site, reaching therapeutic concentrations after 0.5-1 hours; it penetrates easily into most animal organs and tissues and is metabolized in the liver with the formation of inactive metabolites. It is excreted from the body mainly with bile and partially with urine.
Application
Doxycycline is used to treat cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and dogs in infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to doxycycline, including colibacillosis, salmonellosis, staphylococcosis, pneumonia, hemophilesis, Enzootic pig pneumonia, pig face, pasteurellosis, ungulate rot, ehrlichiosis in dogs, keratoconjunctivitis, wound infection, arthritis, umbilical sepsis, abscesses, chlamydia and other diseases of bacterial and mycoplasma etiology.
Dosage
Doxycycline is administered to animals once in doses:
– cattle, sheep and goats – 1.0 ml per 22lb (10 kg) animal weight (which corresponds to 20 mg of doxycycline per 2.2lb (1 kg) body weight);
– pigs – 0.5 ml per 22lb (10 kg) animal weight (which corresponds to 10 mg of doxycycline per 2.2lb (1 kg) body weight);
– dogs – 0.25 ml per 22lb (10 kg) body weight (which corresponds to 5 mg of doxycycline per 2.2lb (1 kg) body weight).
If necessary, the drug should be used again 48 hours after the first injection.
Due to a possible painful reaction, the drug should be injected in an amount exceeding 2.5 ml for pigs and lambs, 5 ml for adult pigs, sheep and calves, 10 ml for cattle, and in several places.
Treatment of dogs for chlamydia infections should last at least 7 days.
The preparation should be used with caution for calves up to 12 months old and piglets up to 6 months old due to possible side effects – painful reaction at injection and swelling at the injection site.
Contraindications
The medicinal product may not be used in animals during pregnancy and lactation period. It is prohibited to use the medicinal product simultaneously with antibiotics of penicillin and cephalosporins groups, as well as calcium preparations due to possible decrease in its activity.
Side effects
When used according to the leaflet-interface side effects are usually not observed, except for the animal’s hypersensitivity to doxycycline, in these cases intravenous administration of calcium (calcium gluconate, calcium chloride), antihistaminescent drugs is shown.
Overdose
If you overdose the drug the following symptoms may occur: diarrhea, vomiting, refusal of food, impaired movement coordination. In this case, you should stop using the drug and conduct symptomatic therapy.
Caution
It is permitted to slaughter animals for meat no sooner than 21 days after the last application. The meat of animals forced to be slaughtered before the expiration of this period may be used as feed for fur animals.
Storage
The medicinal product is kept in a closed container of the manufacturer, separate from food and fodder, in a dry, dark place inaccessible for children at temperatures between 40-77F (5 º C to 25 º C).
Shelf life – 2 years from the date of manufacture.
