PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Amoxicillin is a semisynthetic antibiotic of the penicillin series. Its mechanism of action consists in disruption of the synthesis of the cell walls of the bacteria, inhibition of enzymes of transpeptidase and carboxypeptidase, disruption of osmotic balance, which leads to the death of the bacteria at the growth stage. Amoxicillin has a broad spectrum of action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms such as: Staphylococcusspp., Streptococcus, spp. (S.agalactiae, S.dysgalactiae, S.uberis), E.coli, Arcanobacteria (including A.pyogenes), Corynebacteria spp, Clostridia spp, Bacillus anthracis, Actinomyces bovis, Bacillus cereus, Bacteroides (including strains producing β-lactamase), Campilobacter spp, Klebsiella spp, Pasteurella spp, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp, Proteus spp, Fusobacterium necrophorum, Haemophilus spp, Moraxella spp, Actinobacillus lignieresi.
Clavulanic acid is one of the natural metabolites of Streptomyces clavuligerus. It has similarities with penicillin in its structurally similar core with a β-lactam ring. Clavulanic acid is an inhibitor of the β-lactamase enzyme, whose action is initially active and is eventually deactivated. Clavulanic acid penetrates the bacterial cell wall and binds external and intracellular β-lactamase enzymes.
Amoxicillin in combination with an inhibitor of this enzyme (clavulanic acid) broadens the spectrum of antimicrobial action.
After parenteral injection, the drug is quickly absorbed and distributed throughout the body tissues, reaching high concentrations in muscle tissues, liver, and kidneys.
